Chapter 7: The Power of Friendship

Chapter 7: The Power of Friendship

Johnny never expected to feel comfortable around people.

For so long, he had accepted being alone. It was easier that way.

But Snoopy changed everything.

Now, when he went to the park, he wasn’t invisible anymore.

He started seeing the same faces—the woman with the dachshund, the old man who always fed the birds, and, most importantly, the boy with the golden retriever.

His name was Ryan.

“Hey, Johnny!” Ryan called out one afternoon, waving from across the park. Max, his golden retriever, tugged at the leash, eager to run.

Johnny hesitated for a moment, then he waved back.

Snoopy barked excitedly, as if sensing something important was happening.

Ryan jogged over. “Wanna let them play?”

Johnny glanced down at Snoopy, who was practically bouncing with excitement.

“Sure,” Johnny said.

They unclipped the leashes, and the dogs took off, chasing each other through the grass. Johnny watched as Snoopy darted between trees, tail wagging furiously.

Ryan grinned. “He’s fast.”

Johnny nodded. “Yeah. He loves to run.”

“You should join track,” Ryan said casually.

Johnny tensed. He had heard that before—from his teachers, from his mom. But coming from Ryan, it felt different.

“I don’t know,” Johnny said, shoving his hands in his pockets. “I usually just run on my own.”

Ryan shrugged. “That’s cool too. But if you ever wanna run with other people, you should think about it.”

Johnny didn’t say anything, but something about the idea didn’t seem so scary anymore.

For the rest of the afternoon, they talked—about their dogs, about school, about little things that didn’t really matter but somehow felt important.

And when Johnny went home that night, he realized something.

For the first time in a long time, he had made a friend.

Not just Snoopy.

A real friend.
